This song has a lot of meaning to me I suppose. It is essentially the song that got me into electronic music. After seeing this video of Justice at I Love Techno in 2006, I was hooked. Ross D

After hearing the High Contrast remix of the Calvin Harris track ready for the weekend, I've been searching for some DnB that I can get into. I'm not really a listener to this type of music, though I enjoy it in the setting of a massive. I would search, but I don't know where to look, so imagine my surprised happiness when into the Funkyrehab inbox dropped the Ross D track The 215. Its an uplifting, and energetic (as if DnB ever isn't) tribute to the artist's home town of Philly. Ross D's debut album Musical D-Lite will be released in September on Playloop Records.

Fakers - Nightswimming

Just found two posts that I wrote a few months ago, so here you go. This Re-Edit is my favorite mix in recent memory. Kissy Sell Out throws the Bmore style on this REM track, giving it a new energy. Kissy Sell Out is a DJ from London, with “one or two” remixes. REM is... wait should I even be telling you this?

Singles - Motorin'

This single by Seatle/Tacoma natives, The Saturday Knights, first came to my attention as a result of the snowboarding DVD Double Decade. Once I heard the beat I was hooked. I couldn't go around without humming it to myself. In addition, the music video makes me think of The Big Lebowski and all of the good things that go along with that.

Down for Maintenance

...on my computer. As in, recently I had a problem that caused the computer with all of my music to crash. I had most of that music backed up, but the stuff that wasn't was all the new stuff. So as of now, I am temporarily unable to do new posts. BUT! Hopefully that Roman kid will find it in his heart to get something up here soon enough. And as I leave you, I'll give you one last track that I really enjoyed. It's called "Alice" by Pogo, an Australian fellow who enjoys remixing audio from shows and movies into songs. This one is from Alice in Wonderland, and is something like 90% original audio from the animated classic itself. Watch the video first, then download if you find it to your liking.

Fischerspooner

Today, we will be transported back almost a decade to the late 90's/early 2000's. For some of us, Fischerspooner is a bit of flash of nostalgia. "Didn't they do that...'Never Win' song..? Or something?" Well, yes, as a matter of fact, they did. But that's not all they had to offer. They're an electroclash duo out of New York that definitely brings a unique sound to the table. At times the way the vocals pair with the synth sounds is reminiscent of Freezepop without the sugary-sweet aspect. But that's about where the similarity stops. Their songs definitely have a progression, and they definitely build. Comes out of nowhere sometimes, but if it's a surprise, it's certainly a pleasant one. So take these songs and give 'em a try.

SIngles - Moby

First things first, this blog is on a downturn. And while I am just as responsible as the fine folk we have as admins, I still point a blaming finger in their direction. Shame on you people! Let's get this thing back up and running, k? K.
Review time. I know that basically everyone on this blog knows Moby. Many are probably huge fans of the man's work. But this song I'm sticking up here today is, in my opinion, an instant classic- one that will stay alongside Porcelain and Southside in our memories. The thing is...it's a remix. A very talented remix by the talented Steve Angello (myspace here). But as such, this song is made to be blasted over speakers with sick bass. I predict its effeciveness peaks when at the end of a massive set; when everyone is high strung but tiring out, this would let them unwind and do just as much as they felt was appropriate. So while this is probably nothing new to you, I give you Raining Again (Steve Angello's Vocal Mix).
And over the next few days, I'm going to try and keep updating. I've got some free time to kill, after all. Hopefully my compatriats will join me.

The new album by the Harlem Shakes is out. I picked it up yesterday at their show, and have been listening to it since, so I suggest you check it out now.

Beesmunt Soundsystem

Like that electronic dance music that we've been posting? Well then heres something that you will probably enjoy. This is Beesmunt Soundsystem, a European Dj duo. Since forming in 2006, they've been spinning French House, Electro, Disco, Fidget House, 80’s, Baltimore Club, New Wave, Classic House, Hiphop and 90’s, as well as producing some wobly, ghetto bass tracks. Unfortunately, unless you're in amsterdam, there isn't much of a chance of hearing them live anytime soon. Here is their track Eraserhead.

An Unorthodox Post...

Red Wire Black Wire

Red Wire Black Wire is an Electro-pop group currently residing in Brooklyn. They are coming to you as graduates of the school that some large contingent of you may be attending, Wesleyan. You know, where those other guys came from. I found about them in early December, and immediately grilled my wes friends on whether or not they were familiar with the group. None replied in the affirmative. For this reason, I find this post very neccessary. For lack of a better personal comparison, the band has been said to sound like equal parts Ratatat, and The Cure. So without further ado, please check out their track Compass from the Compass EP, which is well worth buying. Check them out on their website, or on myspace. Also, if you are going to be in Manhattan this weekend, maybe you can try to find me listening to them at Webster Hall.

But in all seriousness, today I am giving you guys more of that infectious genre we love so well- the hair of the dog that bit you: electro/techno. Our artist this time comes from that glorious Paris club scene, and he has a background there, as he spent his teen years DJing at raves. This is most likely responsible for the affinity I and many others have for this music: his experience working the crowd gave him a lot of knowledge of what sounds can get ppl to move. I mean, fuck, I can't listen to any of his stuff without at least bobbing my head, swaying, and drumming my fingers to the music. Basically, y'all gotta listen to this to figure out what I'm talking about. So I'm gonna give you two things in addition to his myspace: the single Hools (yeah, I just linked to another music blog...but who the fuck cares?), which is one of my absolute favorites, and this lovely video for the song Ohow?

Singles - Osymyso

Okay. I just had to do this. Osymyso is a DJ from Britain. Big on bastard pop and breakbeat, he's been doing crazy-ass mash-ups and remixes since the 90's, and he's damn good at it. The reason I'm writing this review is because of the track called Intro-Inspection. This 12-minute track features samples from 101 songs. Yes, one hundred and one songs. And not only that, but also the transitions are BRILLIANT. Overlaying The Kinks' "You Really Got Me" and Guns n' Roses' "Sweet Child of Mine" is one thing, but when that breaks way into "Wipe Out" by the Surfaris, you are dealing with a whole new beast. And this one's on steroids and meth. One of my personal favorites is between The Offspring's "Pretty Fly for a White Guy" and "Barbie Girl" by Aqua, in which the lyrics end up being "...and all the girlies say- I'm a barbie girl!" So anyway...

Daedelus

Oh yes, I'm writing this. So Daedelus. What can I say? He is truly a unique artist, even in the electronic scene. As I said, he plays using a Monome 256 (seen here) , but he pioneered combining this machine with the Max/MSP software to create music. What does this mean? This means that live shows are awesome because only he knows what the FUCK is going on, but you get to watch orange lights go by and listen to chill music. And speaking of the music, it's amazing. Daedelus combines electronic sounds, hip hop beats and lyrics, old tracks of string instruments, and random vocal tracks to create a fucking gorgeous sound. I had the pleasure of going to one of his shows, and his performance was flawless; despite a complete lack of gaps between songs, everything seemed to flow together like one giant song. Transitions were subtle, if at all apparent, and artfully executed with his own personal flare. And that flare comes in handy when people get bored of watching orange lights and want to see the person making them flash. It is not a disappointing sight, as Daedelus makes pressing a bunch of buttons to music look interesting and intense. So there you have it: unique music with a great sound, and even better live. Bringing Back the FUNK

As our millions of readers are aware, I haven't posted for those blog in a little while. Not too long, of course... >.> Exaggeration aside (if it's possible to ignore), I cannot continue to deprive people of my extra super greatness. Therefore, I am calling upon a new era! One of great musical prosperity and happiness for all to enjoy. together. And it will all start *pause for dramatic effect* ...soon. This post is more to motivate myself by making a commitment. However, seeing as I should be (and am) studying for finals, I must hold off on the awesome that I'll be spreading. Just know that I will be writing about Daedelus, an amazingly chill electronic guy who uses a Monome 256. More about that later...all you're getting for now is this little sample. Keep up the awesome.

Rodrigo y Gabriela

These two flamenco guitarists hail from Mexico, but now reside in Dublin after finding that their trash metal band was a little too narrow. They have a distinct and technical style with very fast and rhythmical playing. They use this not only to play their own songs, but also to play increbile covers of Metallica and Stairway (because who can't?). They have five albums currently out, two of which are live. This tells a little about how much these two tour. So here's a link of a pretty good live version of my favorite song by them, Tamacun: . I highly reccomend these two to anybody looking for a good small group to support.

On a side note, I'll be trying to post more and more over the coming couple of weeks, seeing as I discovered a great deal of new music. Anywho, stay frosty.
